  1. I like the way British people talk. I think their accents are interesting and fun to listen to. I like how they drink tea and how proper they are. I also like how fancy they dressed in the olden days.- Hannah Finkelstein

  2. My favorite aspect of British history is the era of feudalism because this is the era that I most associate with fantasies about castles and dragons, so it is interesting to learn about what really happened during this era. I think that the best part of British literature is fantasy, which can be told to instruct, entertain, or simply chronicle events (even if they didn't really happen). One of my favorite books of this type is The Lord of the Rings, which creates the entirely new world of Middle Earth and presents it as though it had an entire history and culture. -Kevin Specht

  4. My favorite part of British history and culture is the way in which they always criticized foreign peoples such as the Irish, Native Americans, and Indians for being savage and uncivilized when in reality, they were the ones treating their colonized and conquered peoples like animals. Although this is not a good trait of the British, I find it very interesting to study. They also always seemed to be at the center/head of the world. - Sean MacPherson

  6. My favorite part of British culture is how proud the people are of their culture and country. Coming from British ancestors, I am especially excited to learn about the culture. I also like how laid back their daily lives are and how different they are from the lives we live here.

  7. I really enjoy British television, like Doctor Who or BBC's Sherlock because they are a lot different than American television. I think it's interesting how many British people act, like very simple but elegant. I haven't read much British literature but I really loved the Harry Potter series and I think J.K. Rowling is very inspiring.

  9. I like the way of life around London and how interesting a city it is if you enjoy and know enough about the history behind it.

  10. What I like about British Lit. is the some of the stories that the British author's from the past wrote like the story Macbeth which I'm anticipating to read since it sounds very interesting. But also the way the characters are portrayed in stories, such as the main character in Pride & Prejudice is very smart around gossip. (Not sure if that's right. I didn't reall enjoy that book). Not to mention that I also have a favorite actor who is British as well.

  11. I have never been to England so I would not know anything first-hand about their culture. I do know that I read Othello last year in English 10 and I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed it because I loved seeing the plot unfold and the connection and harmony between themes.

  13. I dont know much about British literature or culture but I always found the story of Henry the 8th very interesting. I thought it was kind of funny how he had to go through so many wives until he was able to get a son.

  14. I have to say, since I have been to London myself, that the staple food there like bangers and mash is absolutely the worst thing I have ever tasted! I find it very interesting that about 1/3 of the London population is Indian people. I never made the connection that when the East India Company was operating in the 19th and 20th centuries, many Indians moved to London so seek higher education etc so, over the course of about two-hundred years, Indians have actually become a part of British cultiure, in a way. More recently though, because of the hatred for Traditional British food and the love for British-Indian food, curry has become the national dish!

  15. I love Brittish accents. I could listen to a brittish person talk all day and never get board, no matter what they're talking about. I also love Brittish plays such as Othello. I am a huge theatre nerd and learning about the first great plays is amazing to me. I havn't gotten a chance to be in an Brittish play as of yet, but hopefully in college I will. -Casey Reardon

  17. The thing I like most about British culture (that I've learned so far, anyways) is Shakespeare. Some people think I'm crazy, but I think Shakespearian plays are so much fun. They're difficult enough to pose a challenge when reading them, but when you strip away the fancy language, the plots are actually pretty straightforward. The plays are written in such a way that readers end up connecting and empathizing with the characters, whether it's feeling bad about Othello being tricked by Iago, or for Romeo's mortal misunderstanding, or even for the confusion- albeit amusing confusion- caused by Puck's shenanigans.

Also, in a dark sort of way, it's kind of hilarious how in any given play, nearly half the characters die super melodramatic deaths.

  18. I find the type of language that was used in British literature in Elizabethan times interesting, even though i don't necessarily understand it all, or any it.

  19. My favorite thing about Great Britain is the 2012 Olympic Summer Games in London. Other than that, I also enjoy Marry Poppins and Monty Python. I am not a big fan of the British Monarchy but I do find the regional distinctions in Great Britain (England, Wales, Scotland etc.) fascinating. I also find Great Britain's relationship with Ireland quite interesting. There is alot of unique history and culture to be found in the British Isles. - Marcus Papandrea

  21. I think British people are alright, their accents are pretty cool. Their literature is pretty amazing though with their talented authors like Shakespeare. The way he writes is so intriguing and always has great meaning to it. The Olympic Games were also hosted in London this year, which was great to watch!
